Brief History of Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico, "La Isla del Encanto," is a vibrant Caribbean island with a rich cultural heritage. Originally home to the Taíno people, who called it "Borikén," the island was claimed by Spain in 1493 and became a vital colony for centuries. After the Spanish-American War in 1898, Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory, blending Taíno, Spanish, African, and American influences into its unique identity.
Known for its music, art, and resilience, Puerto Rico is a source of pride for many, including Lambda Theta Alpha members who will come together to celebrate its enduring beauty and cultural legacy as an inspiration for strength and sisterhood.
