Welcome to Detroit!

A Message from our Board of Directors!

We are proud to welcome you to the 2026 National Convention of Lambda Theta Alpha, Latin Sorority, Inc., as we gather in Detroit, Michigan—a city that reflects resilience, transformation, and collective strength. As the first Latina sorority, we continue to move forward with intention, grounded in our values of Unity, Love, and Respect, and committed to nurturing the whole member.
This year’s convention theme, Driven by Purpose. Fueled by Sisterhood., centers our shared responsibility to care for ourselves and one another. Our time together in Detroit is designed with member wellness at the forefront—emotionally, physically, financially, and holistically—recognizing that our ability to lead, serve, and sustain our legacy depends on our well-being.
Our National Convention is more than a gathering; it is a restorative space. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect, reconnect, and be replenished by sisterhood. Throughout the weekend, members will engage in experiences that support balance, encourage growth, and create space for healing and joy—while continuing to strengthen leadership, deepen our understanding of our history, and advance the mission of Lambda Theta Alpha.
As we build upon the momentum of our 50th year and step into the next chapter, Detroit symbolizes where we are headed: forward, together, and with purpose. We look forward to welcoming members from across the nation to connect with our Founding Mothers, National Leadership, the LTA Foundation, and one another—united in care, community, and commitment.
We hope you will join us for a National Convention grounded in wellness, strengthened by sisterhood, and inspired by the future we are creating together.

With Unity, Love, Respect

Brief History of Detroit

Detroit was founded in 1701 as a French trading post along the Detroit River, a strategic gateway between the Great Lakes. Over the 19th century, it grew into a major industrial and transportation hub, attracting immigrants and migrants from across the U.S. and abroad. In the early 20th century, Detroit became the heart of the American auto industry—home to Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler—earning the nickname “Motor City” and fueling rapid economic and cultural growth.

After mid-century population loss and industrial decline, Detroit faced significant challenges, but in recent decades the city has undergone a steady resurgence. Today, Detroit is known for its rich musical legacy (especially Motown and techno), iconic architecture, resilient neighborhoods, and a renewed spirit of innovation and creativity.
