National Awards

Annually the organization recognizes individual members, chapters, areas, regions, and university staff for their hard work and contributions to the advancement of the sorority.

All application submissions are to be completed on CampusGroups.

Principles Award

The Principles Award is presented to a member who exemplifies the sorority’s principles of Unity, Love and Respect in her everyday life. Any active member is eligible for the award.

Lourdes Cortes Scholarship for Academic Excellence

The Lourdes Cortes Scholarship for Academic Excellence is awarded to an active undergraduate member with the highest GPA based on official transcripts. It is a $500 scholarship awarded solely on the basis of academic excellence.

Individual Awards

These awards are given to Undergraduate and Alumnae members who exemplify the sorority’s principles in everyday life, serve their chapters and communities and strive to fulfill their lifetime commitment. The individual awards are as follows:

  • Undergraduate of the Year
  • Alumna of the Year
  • Neophyte of the Year 
    Members initiated in Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 are eligible for this award.
  • New Professional of the Year
    Awarded to a member with 5 years or less of professional experience
  • Professional of the Year
    Awarded to a member with 5+ years of professional experience
  • Campus Leader of the Year
    Awarded to a member who serves her campus community
  • Philanthropist of the Year
    Awarded to a member committed to community service
  • Political Activist of the Year

Awarded to a member who is civically engaged in her community. Award recipient will receive a $400 scholarship towards registration and travel costs to attend the sorority’s Lambda Hill Days program in Washington, D.C.

Chapter Awards

These awards are given to chapters who have shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood throughout the past academic year. Chapters may apply for the following categories:

  • Undergraduate Chapters of the Year
  • Alumnae Chapter of the Year
  • New Chapter of the Year
    Chapters founded in Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 are eligible for this award
  • Philanthropic Chapter of the Year
    Awarded to a chapter committed to providing awareness and fundraising efforts to our national philanthropy and partnership, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Lambda Theta Alpha Foundation.
  • Political Activist Chapter of the Year
    Awarded to a chapter that is civically engaged in the community. Chapter will receive a $400 scholarship towards registration and travel costs for one representative to attend the sorority’s Lambda Hill Days program in Washington, D.C.

Alumnae Awards

These awards are given to alumnae members who exemplify the organization’s mission through their continued support of Lambda Theta Alpha:
  • Universal Mother Award
    Awarded to the member who successfully balances the role of the universal woman by participating in Lambda Theta Alpha activities and motherhood.
  • Alumnae Entrepreneur Award
    Active Alumnae member who is in the process of starting (or within 6 months of starting) a new business, program, product or research study that is applicable to Lambda Theta Alpha’s mission.

Leadership Awards

Area of the Year

This award is for the Area that has shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood collectively with all its supervising chapters throughout the past academic year.

Area Officer of the Year

This award is for the Area Leader that has shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood collectively with all its supervising chapters throughout the past academic year.

Region of the Year

This award is for the Region that has shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood collectively with all its supervising chapters throughout the past academic year.

Regional Officer of the Year

This award is for the Regional Leader that has shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood collectively with all its supervising chapters throughout the past academic year.

Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisor of the Year

This award is given to a university official who works in fraternity and sorority affairs to honor their support in the success of an undergraduate chapter.

Outstanding Service Award

The Outstanding Service Award is given to the Chapter or Area that made efforts and excelled in outstanding community service.
