National Awards

Annually the organization recognizes individual members, chapters, areas, regions, and university staff for their hard work and contributions to the advancement of the sorority.

All application submissions are due on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 and can be completed on CampusGroups.

Individual Awards

These awards are given to Undergraduate and Alumnae members who exemplify the sorority's principles in everyday life, serve their chapters and communities and strive to fulfill their lifetime commitment. The individual awards are as follows:

  • Principles Award
    • The Principles Award is an individual award presented to a member who exemplifies the sorority's principles of Unity, Love and Respect in her everyday life. Any active member is eligible for the award.
  • New Member of the Year
    • Awarded to an active new member (Spring 2024 or Fall 2024) that has gone above and beyond to build relationships, maintain academic excellence, and sustain strong involvement across different campus or off-campus spaces.
  • Philanthropic Member of the Year
    • Awarded to an active member that has devoted their time and passion to philanthropic and charitable efforts throughout the past sorority year.
  • Political Activist Member of the Year
    • Awarded to a member who is civically engaged in her community. Award recipient will receive a $400 stipend towards registration and travel costs to attend the sorority's Lambda Hill Days program in Washington, D.C. or another PEI related conference.

Undergraduate Awards

These awards are given to active undergraduate members who have shown service to their campus community, as well as, sisterhood throughout the past academic year. Members may apply for the following categories:

  • Lourdes Cortes Scholarship for Academic Excellence
    • The Lourdes Cortes Scholarship for Academic Excellence is awarded to an active undergraduate member with the highest GPA based on official transcripts. The $500 scholarship award is given solely based on academic excellence.
  • Campus Leader of the Year
    • Awarded to a member who serves their campus community.
  • Undergraduate of the Year
    Awarded to an active undergraduate who exemplifies the organization's principles of Unity, Love and Respect, serves their community, and strives to fulfill their lifetime commitment to the organization.

Chapter Awards

These awards are given to chapters who have shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood throughout the past academic year. Chapters may apply for the following categories:

  • Alumnae Chapter of the Year
    • Awarded to an alumnae chapter that has shown exceptional event planning, philanthropic and political/civic engagement within the community, charitable and educational programming, as well as collectively demonstrating sisterhood throughout the past sorority year.
  • Outstanding Service Award
    • Awarded to a chapter that has excelled in bringing awareness as well as held significant fundraising efforts to our national philanthropies, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and LTA Foundation. The application can be for one specific St. Jude and/or LTA Foundation event or several combined events that took place during the past sorority year.
  • Political Activist Chapter of the Year
    • Awarded to a chapter that has demonstrated commitment to civic engagement, educating their communities, and to political advocacy initiatives throughout the past sorority year. Chapter will receive a $400 stipend towards registration and travel costs for one representative to attend the sorority's Lambda Hill Days program in Washington, D.C. or another PEI related conference.
  • Philanthropic Chapter of the Year
    Awarded to a chapter that devoted their time and passion to philanthropic and charitable efforts throughout the past sorority year.
  • Undergraduate Chapter of the Year
    • Awarded to undergraduate chapters that have shown exceptional event planning, philanthropic and political/civic engagement within the community, charitable and educational programming, as well as collectively demonstrating sisterhood throughout the past sorority year.

Alumnae Awards

These awards are given to alumnae members who exemplify the organization's mission through their continued support of Lambda Theta Alpha:

  • Alumna of the Year
    • Awarded to an active alumna member who exemplifies the organization's principles of Unity, Love and Respect, serves their community, and strives to fulfill their lifetime commitment to the organization.
  • Universal Mother Award ($500 award)
    Awarded to an active alumna member who successfully balances the role of the universal woman by participating in Lambda Theta Alpha activities and motherhood.
  • Alumnae Entrepreneur Award ($500 award)
    Awarded to an active alumna member who is in the process of starting (or within 6-months of starting) a new business, program, product, or research study that applies to Lambda Theta Alpha's mission. The award will be given with the expectation to use toward business/program/product/study development and implementation. The winner of the award will be asked to submit a summary of how the award was used (accompanied with pictures if applicable) to be featured in one of our newsletters.
  • New Professional of the Year
    • Awarded to an active alumna member with 5 years or less of professional experience and who demonstrates perseverance, early leadership qualities in their career, community, and Lambda Theta Alpha.
  • Professional of the Year
    • Awarded to an active alumna member with 5+ years of professional experience and who has excelled in their career serving as a role model to all while living our principles of Unity, Love and Respect.

Area and Regional Awards

These awards are given to areas and regions as well as their respective leadership who have shown exceptional event planning, community and social services efforts, as well as, sisterhood throughout the past academic year. Areas and Regions may apply for the following categories:

  • Area of the Year
    Awarded to the Area that has shown exceptional event planning, service efforts within the community, as well as collectively demonstrating sisterhood with all of its respective chapters throughout the past sorority year.
  • Area Officer of the Year
    • Awarded to the Area Officer who has demonstrated excellent support and leadership among the board, with other leaders, and with the chapters throughout the past sorority year.
  • Region of the Year
    • Awarded to the Region that has shown exceptional event planning, service efforts within the community, as well as collectively demonstrating sisterhood with all of its respective chapters throughout the past sorority year.
  • Regional Officer of the Year
    • Awarded to the Regional Officer who has demonstrated excellent support and leadership among the board, with other leaders, and with the chapters throughout the past sorority year.
  • Outstanding Service of the Year

Other Awards

Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisor of the Year

This award is given to a university official who works in fraternity and sorority affairs to honor their support in the success of an undergraduate chapter.
