Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • How do members access the application to apply to a position?

Members must have a CampusGroups Account. Don't have one? You can direct them to request an account be created by clicking here.

*Note: If they are a newly inducted member, they need to complete the google form shared by the Orientation team in order to have their accounts appropriately transitioned from Interested Member to Member of Lambda Theta Alpha.

  • Who can vote in Board of Directors Elections?

Active undergraduate and alumnae who have been members at least 30 days prior to the date of elections, this includes sisters who are active 'at-large' via leadership and/or committees.

Being that elections start on April 10th, 2021 new sisters would need to have been initiated prior to March 11, 2021 in order to participate in elections.

Proxy voting (having someone else vote for you) is not allowed.

  • Who can vote in Area Elections?

Current Area Officers, Active Undergraduates who report to the area, Active Alumnae who report to the area and are active within a local alumnae chapter including Lifetime Active Members as well as New Members who have been initiated at least 30 days prior to the date of the election.

Being that elections start on April 10th, 2021 new sisters would need to have been initiated prior to March 11, 2021 in order to participate in elections.

  • What happens if one member is running for two Area Board positions and is elected into both?

The elected member will have to choose the position they would like to take on and the other position will become vacant and will go through the appointment process.

  • If a member who doesn't have the alumnae requirement is running against another who has all the requirements but is not active, how would eligibility be determined? Is active status a factor?

We must refer to our National Constitution. Currently, it says: To be eligible to serve at the Area level, a member must be a prophyte in good standing, have graduated from an accredited four-year institution at a minimum of two years prior to her term, and have been an active alumna status for two years. In the event there is no candidate who meets these criteria, the requirement shall be waived.

To be in good standing means to be Active (see definition in National Constitution, Article III – Membership, Section 4). Therefore, to answer your first question, neither member meet all the requirements. So they both move forward. However, if a third member applies and meets ALL the requirements, they would then disqualify the other two.

  • Is the requirement to live within the area waivable?

The answer depends on the number of applicants and is determined once the application period has ended.

If the position already has another applicant who does reside within the area: The requirement is then not waivable. If the member does not live in the area that they are applying for upon submitting the application, they do not qualify. Again, somebody can promise that they will move however, that does not guarantee that they will when the time comes.

If the position DOES NOT have another applicant who resides within the area: We must then look at the National Constitution, Article X: Area, Section 5, Letter D: In the event there is no candidate who meets this criterion, the Area Board shall have the authority to wave and adjust the area proximity requirement to within two hours or a 120-miles radius of the area with the approval of the Regional Board in order to secure qualified candidates.

  • Undergraduate Chapters: We just crossed a new line and some of the neos want to serve on the chapter board. Can we hold elections?

No, our governing documents currently specify that elections only occur during the spring semester and within an outlined timeline. Undergraduate chapters are not permitted to "reshuffle" positions when new members are inducted.

Does this mean neos cannot hold a chapter board position that is currently vacant? No, an appointment call can be done and the Undergraduate chapter should communicate with their Area Coordinator in order to coordinate.
