Lambda Hill Days

  • HISTORY

    Lambda Hill Days

In 2017, the Political Education Initiative (PEI) Committee actively organized a pilot program for Lambda Hill Day in partnership with Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. The two-day advocacy program took place April 27-28, 2017 in Washington D.C. and served as a direct opportunity for our members to meet with elected officials and advocate for our communities. The first cohort received 34 applications from sisters eager and interested in participating.

  • What has LTA brought to D.C. to speak with Congress about?

Started after the political climate drastically changed in the Fall of 2016, Lambda Hill Days has always had a focus on discussing priority issues to representatives that our members are passionate about. Topics have included: Immigration Reform, Women & Reproductive Rights, Access to Affordable Healthcare, Access to Affordable Housing, Student and Education Reform, Affirmative Action, Student Debt Forgiveness, Environmental Impact, Restoring Voter Rights, and much more.

Typically, members will chose a topic they are passionate about to be their priority issue. Cohort members will be grouped together based on similar issues, as well as receive information on what sisters across the organization are feeling most passionate about via the annual Priority Issue Survey.

  • How do I apply?

Applications will open via Campus Groups in the Fall. Members are encouraged to apply, active or inactive. Members are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible, and be thorough when submitting. Informationals will be held prior to application deadlines, and any interest cohort members are encouraged to attend.

“I feel so grateful to have been selected for the 7th annual Lambda Hill Days (LHD). It was such a privilege to have been able to walk the halls of the People’s House and meet with the offices of Florida legislators. LHD is more than just two days. There is training and thoughtful preparation involved. Prior to meeting with legislative staff, I made sure that I was updated on research about Paid Parental Leave policy and CEDAW, crafted talking points that were contextual to the audience and looked at my Senator’s track record on the issues. I also looked up any relevant pieces of current legislation. After our meetings the most important part: is the follow-up to keep our representatives accountable. I learned so much about the processes of the Hill from LHD guest speakers, many of whom are our LTA sisters.”
